BOE to vote on new school calendars October 20, 2015
Update on Board of Education Student Achievement Committee Meeting – Calendars
October 6, 2015, the Board of Education (BOE) Student Achievement Committee (SAC) took action on the proposed calendars presented by the DOE for the next three years. A few people presented testimony on the proposed calendars including HSTA, represented by Deputy Executive Director Andrea Eshelman and Negotiations Chair and teacher Osa Tui, Jr.
The BOE Student Achievement Committee (SAC) chose to move forward with recommending the DOE’s proposed 2016-2017 calendar with slight modifications, which included expanding the winter break by one additional day to begin on Thursday, December 22, 2016 and pushing back the end date by one day for students to Friday, May 26, 2017 and teachers to Tuesday May 30, 2017. The BOE SAC will also recommend the DOE’s proposed calendar for 2017-2018 with no changes. Finally, the SAC chose to postpone any action on the 2018-2019 calendar.
We anticipate that the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 calendars will be presented to the full Board of Education at its general meeting on October 20, 2015 for final approval.
