Grievance Update on End of Course Exams

Pursuant to the settlement of a class action grievance initiated by high school teacher and HSTA Vice President, Joan Lewis, the DOE issued a memo rescinding the requirement that 15 % of a student’s grade be based on the results of an End of Course (E)C) Exam in the following secondary courses:
Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Biology 1, and US History.

EOC exams are still required in these courses but teachers will maintain discretion as to the determination of students’ final grades in accordance with Article VI, Sect. R of the collective Bargaining agreement.
