Social Justice Summit 2020 presented by HSTA

Join us for a day of relationship-building, cultural exploration and inclusion

Event date: 5/3/2020 8:45 AM - 2:00 PM Export event

HSTA is postponing this Social Justice Summit due to concerns over the coronavirus (COVID-19). We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but health and safety are our top priorities. We are still looking at potential alternative dates to hold the summit and other social-justice-related activities should that be possible in the future. Please keep checking HSTA's website, Member Matters e-newsletter, and social media channels for the latest developments.

HSTA's Social Justice Summit aims to highlight and support disadvantaged groups, especially among our youth. How can we address the struggles and complex issues our students face as they navigate our classrooms, campuses, and communities?

What is social justice?

"Social justice refers to a concept in which equity or justice is achieved in every aspect of society rather than in only some aspects or for some people. A world organized around social justice principles affords individuals and groups fair treatment as well as an impartial share or distribution of the advantages and disadvantages within a society." (Teaching for Diversity and Social Justice, Adams, Bell, Griffin, 2nd ed., Routledge 2007)

Our summit will address topics such as:

Pacific Islander awareness ✩ Mental health ✩ Poverty ✩ Restorative justice ✩ Human and sex trafficking ✩ Native Hawaiian sense of place ✩ Social justice in the classroom
