HSTA Higher Education Benefit supports free online associate degrees

HSTA members and family can earn a degree with no out-of-pocket costs

With all the uncertainty in the world these days and the exponentially higher cost of living here in Hawaii, your HSTA Membership Services Committee wanted to create an opportunity to help support members and their families.

HSTA is excited to announce a brand new union benefit for our members and their immediate family, called the HSTA Higher Education Benefit. HSTA members and their family can now earn an associate degree completely free of charge. Family is defined as children and stepchildren, grandchildren and step-grandchildren, spouses, domestic partners, and financial dependents.

HSTA has partnered with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC) to provide every member or retired member, as well as spouses, children, grandchildren, and dependents of an HSTA member, access to earning a two-year degree online for free.

EGCC is an accredited, non-profit public institution with campuses serving eastern Ohio, but HSTA members and their families can enroll in the distance learning program from anywhere in the country and earn a participating online associate degree and certificates with absolutely no out-of-pocket costs for tuition, fees, or e-books.

The degree programs available include:

  • Business Management Degree
  • Associate of Arts Degree
  • Professional Office Management Degree
  • Criminal Justice Degree
  • Teacher Education Degree (Associate of Arts)
  • Paralegal Degree
  • Patient Home Navigator Certificate

The summer semester begins June 1, 2020.
