The Hawaii Education Association (HEA) is one of the oldest local nonprofit organizations dedicated to strengthening excellence in education. Amid Hawaii's recovery from the pandemic and HEA's centennial anniversary in 2021, HEA is interested in hearing from teachers about the opportunities, challenges, and needs that educators face today and into the future.

HEA seeks active and retired teachers from all grade levels, preschool through college, and all islands to participate in online focus groups about the education profession today.

HEA online focus groups with teachers will be starting on Feb. 2. If you are interested in signing up for a focus group, please fill out and submit this form by Jan. 31.

Focus groups will be conducted on select weekday evenings during the first two weeks of February. Each focus group will last about one hour. Focus group participation is confidential, voluntary, and not compensated.

June Motokawa, president of the HEA, said the nonprofit “is looking ahead during these unprecedented times and envisioning the future of education in our state. Since our founding 100 years ago, we have been dedicated to supporting professional excellence among our local educators.

“We know that for our community to recover and thrive, we need to develop and support great educators right here in Hawaii to mentor and inspire the next generation,” said Motokawa, who served as Hawaii State Teachers Association president from 1994 to 1998.
