As the U.S. Department of Education lays the groundwork for reauthorization of the nation’s primary special education law, the National Education Association (NEA) plans to survey its members in the coming weeks about the law.  The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is the primary federal program that authorizes state and local aid for special education and related services for children with disabilities.

The NEA may ask Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA) members to participate in an online survey — called the National Educator Survey — which may arrive in your email inboxes in the next few weeks. The invitation to participate will be sent to a random sample of NEA members nationally, with an emphasis on special education professionals. The HSTA wants to assure you that this survey is legitimate and encourages its members to participate.
