HSTA is proud to participate in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in Honolulu

The Hawaii State Teachers Association proudly participates in annual events to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, legacy, and leadership.
Dr. King championed interracial cooperation, equality, and social change through nonviolent resolution of conflict, dedication to global peace, social justice, economic security, and the eradication of poverty.
He was also a labor movement champion who told the ILWU Local 10 in San Francisco in 1967 when he was inducted as an honorary member, “We’ve learned from labor the meaning of power.”
While the coronavirus pandemic disrupted our normal activities, HSTA’s Human and Civil Rights Committee compiled the following digital social and racial justice resources in his honor.
Hawaii State Judiciary’s Confronting Racial Injustice series
Achieving racial equity in Hawaii will be the overarching theme of a series of discussions among leaders in the criminal justice system, academia, and the community-at-large.

NEA Early Career Educator Racial and Social Justice Series
NEA’s Center for Organizing, in collaboration with the Center for Social Justice, is hosting a series of webinars for Early Career Educators centered around racial and social justice, specifically focusing on ways to support educators of color. These conversations will be hosted monthly around different topics, focusing on equipping new educators with the tools to analyze, implement, and advocate for racial justice in their schools and classrooms.

- March 17: Understanding Implicit Bias Microaggressions and Stereotypes
