BU05 employees do not need to report to work

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education will close all HIDOE campuses and offices statewide on Monday, Aug. 17 due to the impacts of Tropical Storm Lala.
Public charter school teachers should check with their administrators about their school’s plans for Monday.
The Hawaiʻi State Teachers Association will close its offices statewide on Monday, in alignment with the closure of all school facilities.
The HIDOE put out a news release Sunday announcing the closure. The HSTA was able to confirm with the employer that BU05 teachers do not report to work tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 17.
The additional closure will allow time for the HIDOE to complete campus safety assessments, restore utilities where necessary, and address storm-related impacts.
The department will continue working with county and state partners and will provide updates regarding Tuesday’s operations as additional information becomes available.
Previously announced extended closures on Hawai‘i Island for Nā‘ālehu Elementary and Ka‘ū High & Pāhala Elementary School remain in effect.
