At its general business meeting on Thursday, March 4, the Hawaii Board of Education will hear and discuss a presentation from the Hawaii State Department of Education on “strategies for safe reopening of elementary and secondary schools to more in-person learning for fourth quarter.”

This is only a discussion. The board will not vote or take any action Thursday to bring more students back to campuses.

HSTA President Corey Rosenlee said, “HSTA is committed to making sure more students can return to face-to-face learning at our schools safely. HSTA’s Board of Directors meets Saturday to discuss the important factors needed to ensure safety for teachers, staff, and students. HSTA wants to honor our internal democratic process and wishes to hear from its teacher leaders across the state about their concerns before making further public comments.”

At its Human Resources Committee meeting Thursday morning, board members will vote to recommend whether to approve a new contract for Schools Superintendent Christina Kishimoto.
