Under HSTA’s contract, the following is stipulated regarding faculty meetings:
The Association shall be granted no less than fifteen (15) minutes immediately after the conclusion of a faculty meeting to present such items as determined by the Association faculty representative. This time may or may not be within the teachers’ workday.
At the beginning of each month, HSTA leaders will provide you with a few (but not all) of the topics that should be discussed during those 15-minute meetings following faculty meetings.
For April and May, here are some recommended topics to discuss:
April-May
- Tentative master schedule and notification of assignments (Art VII, B)
- Posted by the last day of the school year
- Shall be in writing via Form 5
- Changes after the last day shall be made “for the good of the educational program” and “upon consultation with the teacher(s) affected”
- Teacher Performance Evaluation System (EES) (Art VIII)
- A final rating of less than effective shall be provided no later than the third Friday in May (May 15, 2026)
- Notify your HSTA UniServ Director right away if receiving a less than effective rating
- Report cards (Art VI, R)
- “Fourth quarter grades shall be completed by the end of the teachers’ last work day.”
- Annual closing of school year memo since 2023: “Elementary school teachers who print and send home report cards shall be allowed to print said report cards at least two (2) days prior to the student’s last day.”
- Moving of classrooms (non-professional duties) (Art VI, Z)
- “When given reasonable advance notice by the teacher, the Employer shall, within operational limitations, provide appropriate assistance in the moving and arranging of classroom furniture, equipment and boxes of supplies.”
- Sabbatical leave (Art XII, H)
- Notification of approved sabbatical leaves are forthcoming
- A teacher not granted sabbatical leave shall be given, if requested, a written explanation.
