High school students can join 6-week educational program in Moanalua Valley

Posted: February 12, 2021

Moanalua Gardens Foundation recently launched the Mālama Kamananui Valley Environmental Education Initiative which is open to all Hawaii high school students. This free, in-person program will teach participants about the Kamananui (Moanalua) Valley in a hands-on outdoor classroom experience.

Over the course of six weeks, students will engage in environmental E-STEM activities and learn about environmental and natural resource management career opportunities. They will also learn about the history and culture of the valley, and how to take care of the land through academic and stewardship projects. Eventually, these students can become tour guides for schools and community groups.

Students from high schools all over Oahu, including Waipahu, Campbell, Farrington, Punahou, and Hawaii Technology Academy are currently participating in the first cohort which began in January. Learn more with this video.

The second cohort of students begins in April. A virtual Zoom open house on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 3 p.m. has been scheduled to brief educators. You can register for the open house here.
