If you recently completed a course through HSTA’s Professional Development program, you likely had your $150 course deposit returned via mail. This is not a mistake. Six months ago, HSTA started refunding course deposits to all participants who completed their portfolios and passed their HSTA PD course through PDE3.

These refunds are provided by HSTA’s non-profit foundation, the Hawaii Foundation for Educators. HFE allows community businesses to donate money to support the development of our teachers, and we intend to refund member deposits as long as funds are available.

To take advantage of this benefit, members should do the following:

  1. Go to pd.www.hsta.org and review the current offering of courses.
  2. Sign up for a course that supports your PD needs or interest and pay the course deposit.
  3. Go to your PDE3 account and locate the same course (the section number will be the same as the HSTA PD section number).
  4. Sign up for the PDE3 course and add yourself to the waitlist.

Once registered, HSTA PD will verify your membership and payment, then move you to the official course roster.

Please note, refunds do not apply to non-HSTA PD courses.
