Learn to PADDLE with Kupu Hou Academy in July

The Hawaii State Teachers Association, in partnership with Kupu Hou Academy at Mid-Pacific Institute, is offering members a virtual version of PADDLE (Pedagogies in Authentic Design for Deeper Learning Experiences), an annual summer teacher professional development program that emphasizes trauma-informed research.

This course can be taken for PDE3 reclassification credit.

PADDLE Focused on Student Well Being will emphasize the link between good instructional design in projects and specific learning outcomes, as well as aligning with elements of quality professional development. Participants will develop the skills and knowledge to design lessons that emphasize deeper learning and student well-being, including designing and receiving feedback on their own work to implement in their classroom. They will understand and implement strategies that strengthen relationships and productive benevolent experiences. The end product will be a rich engaging project or inquiry process that will be implemented throughout the school year.

Participants must receive prior approval from their principal or supervising administrator as needed to use this course for reclassification (Form 200-005(a)).

The HSTA PD Department is able to cover the cost for the first 30 members who fill out the registration form. In order to have your fee paid, you must agree to attend all sessions as follows and submit a portfolio at the end of the course.

  • Tuesday, July 6, 8 a.m. to noon
  • Wednesday, July 7, 8 a.m. to noon
  • Thursday, July 8, 8 a.m. to noon
  • Friday, July 9, 8 a.m. to noon
