Submit your reimbursement request by Jan. 2

On Saturday, Dec. 6, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards will release scores for all teachers who submitted new certification and maintenance-of-certification competencies.

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is hosting a virtual celebration of Score Release Day:

When: Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7 a.m. HST (12 p.m. EST)

The program will feature Peggy Brookins, NBCT, and President and CEO of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and a special guest. Guests must pre-register here.

Please note: The national platform for downloading scores and digital certificates will be offline starting Friday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. EST until Dec. 11, 2025, at 12 p.m. EST to update all the new certificates and scores. Once the platform is back up, all candidates will receive an email.

Important next steps: Submit scores, certificate by Jan. 2

Newly certified teachers should watch their email for information about reimbursement of certification costs from Melissa Huntley at HIDOE. The email will be sent to the email on record with the National Board; this is the one used to register and submit your work.

The email will ask newly certified NBCTs to submit their scores report and a digital copy of their certificate. The timeline for submitting this information is tight; your scores and certificate must be submitted by January 2, 2026.

Maintenance of Certification: Teachers should watch for information from Melissa Huntley at HIDOE on submitting the new copy of their renewed certificate. You have until Dec. 31, 2025, to submit the new certificate. Failing to provide the updated copy will impact any differential you receive for your certification.

Make sure to read the email carefully to avoid missing any needed information.

Reimbursement timeline

National board reimbursements and differential payments take quite a while to process. Once the information is received and reviewed, it will undergo several verification steps before being sent for signatures approving checks to be printed. Once approved, the information is then sent through the procurement/vendor process.

Once the documentation is approved, an email will be sent to verify your eligibility for reimbursement. The verification will be sent no sooner than the end of February. Patience and not emailing for updates will help things run smoothly.

Partial reimbursements available

If you did not pass all your competencies, you can still get a partial reimbursement. This will help with the costs to resubmit. The email for the partial reimbursement will be sent sometime after February. Make sure to watch for it; if you miss it, you can still submit for a full reimbursement once you achieve your certificate.

Maintenance of Certification (MOC)

Your Maintenance of Certification (MOC) results reflect whether assessors were able to determine that you, as an NBCT, provided sufficient evidence of growing professionally and maintaining a positive impact on student learning. MOC reports display the decision on whether you successfully demonstrated that you are supporting your certification, along with the important next steps.

For specific questions and guidance on your revisions and score report, candidates can email hstanbct@hsta.org. The HSTA offices will be closed for the winter holiday from Dec. 22, 2025, until Jan. 2, 2026. Any emails sent during that time will be answered after the HSTA offices reopen on Monday, Jan. 5.
