The Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation is accepting applications for Good Idea Grants.

These grants are designed to promote excellence and innovation in the classroom, to enhance the learning experience of the students, and to support schools and teachers in preparing students to be:

  • Self-directed learners,
  • Community contributors,
  • Complex thinkers,
  • Effective communicators, and
  • Effective and ethical users of technology.

Requirements

Applicants must be employed by the Hawaii Department of Education as a classroom teacher at a public school run by the Hawaii Department of Education in the year that the project will be implemented. Grants of up to $3,000 per teacher or team of teachers will be awarded to support innovative projects that propose to increase student engagement and achievement. Proposed projects must be completed within the 2020-2021 school year. First-time applicants will be given priority consideration.

Grant requests will not be considered for teacher travel or professional development; hiring of consultants or substitutes; awards, incentives, rewards, or parties; or supplies, equipment, and furniture items generally provided by the state.

Selection process

Application will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • The degree to which the project proposes to Excite, Engage and Educate students,
  • Use of innovative, unique, or evidence-based approaches designed to increase student learning and engagement and improve how instruction is delivered,
  • Clearly defined measures to determine effectiveness,
  • Value or impact of what will be learned and sustainability or replication potential of the project,
  • Partnership or collaborative effort with one or more of the following: Another school or schools in the complex, parents or guardians, a business or industry, or community-based or non-profit organization that serves students in Hawaii, and
  • A budget and timeline that realistically supports proposed activities and student needs.

Deadline

The deadline to apply is June 12, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. HST (midnight). No changes will be accepted after this deadline.
