IMPACT ON OUR KEIKI

Only 46% of English Language Learner students graduated in 2015-2016.

Hawaii is 48th out of 52 in the nation for 8th grade NAEP reading scores.

Hawaii is 47th in the nation in completion rates for 9th grade to college.

Native Hawaiian public school students are more likely to have inexperienced, unqualified and out-of-field teachers. (Page 30)

Only 14% of Native Hawaiian learners complete post-secondary education/training. (Page 13)

LACK OF FUNDING

Hawaii’s public education spending is the lowest in the nation. (Page 4)

Hawaii is the only state not to use property taxes to fund public education.

Honolulu was ranked 52nd out of 53 areas studied for the lowest property tax rate. (Page 9)

Hawaii is ranked as the 49th worst state in the nation for teachers.
