On March 16, HSTA live-streamed a briefing on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to offer a comprehensive overview of where things currently stood, and what questions and concerns we posed to the HIDOE. We also addressed members' questions, though given these unprecedented circumstances, we did not have all the answers.
Note: Due to the rapidly evolving nature of this situation, the information provided in this video may no longer be accurate.
If you are a BU05 12-month employee and NOT at a multi-track school, you are to report unless told otherwise. The contract states when students are told not to attend school for emergencies or health and safety, BU05 employees are not required to report to said schools. The only schools that were scheduled to be in session this week with students were Mililani Middle, Kapolei Middle, and Holomua Elementary (all multi-track schools on Oahu). Because those students were told not to report as part of the response to COVID-19, the HIDOE has agreed that all BU05 at those schools are not to report. All other schools are on spring break so students are not being kept from attending.
We are continuing to work on this issue and are hoping to have additional updates, including options for working from home as well as what will happen for BU05 the week of March 23–27. We are expecting additional meetings today and the rest of the week with the employer and hope to have more updates soon.
