HSTA board approves official Hawaiian translation of union’s formal name

On the final day of Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language Month), the Hawaiʻi State Teachers Association’s Board of Directors voted to approve the official Hawaiian translation of the union’s formal name: Ka ʻAhahui Kumu Kula o Hawaiʻi Pae ʻĀina.

Hanohano Hawaiʻi outlines an opening protocol that breathes hā, or life, into the proceedings relating to the values, language, culture, and/or history of our islands. In the Hawaiian language, the word hanohano means glorious, honorable, distinguished and honorary.
