Maui teachers shine at HSTA ‘Classy 8’ celebration honoring educators who reached Class VIII

Around 50 educators from HSTA’s Maui Chapter came together last Thursday for a “Classy 8” celebration to honor the first cohort of teachers to advance to Class VIII on the salary schedule.

As a result of HSTA's advocacy, the HIDOE issued a memo that updates the procedures for teachers moving from charter schools into HIDOE positions and creates a one-time window through the end of 2025 for HIDOE teachers who formerly taught at Hawaiʻi charter schools to gain recognition for previous academic and professional development credits that can be used to reclassify and increase their pay. 

HSTA secures reclassification deadline extension until mid January

The Hawai‘i State Teachers Association has secured a two-and-a-half month extension for teachers to fill out their reclassification paperwork following Hawai‘i State Department of Education delays in publishing its reclassification memo.
