Learn how to reduce your student loan debt

The Hawaii State Teachers Association wants to help you reduce or even eliminate your student loan debt. Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration, recent changes to the long dysfunctional Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) mean tens of thousands of public school educators across the country are getting their student loan debt forgiven.

We want you to be one of them!

In the past two years, more than 200,000 National Education Association (NEA) members have made phone calls, sent letters and emails, and testified before state and federal lawmakers to share their experiences with the failed PSLF program. In response, the U.S. Department of Education enacted a temporary waiver, allowing more people to qualify for forgiveness.

The waiver allows all payments by student borrowers to count toward forgiveness, regardless of loan program or payment plan. However, members must apply by Oct. 31 to qualify for forgiveness under the temporary waiver.

President Joe Biden also recently announced his plan to cancel between $10,000 and $20,000 in student debt for millions of Americans who earn less than $125,000 annually. Now is the time to see if you qualify for student loan forgiveness.

We invite you to attend our upcoming free webinar, “Navigating Student Debt” conducted by HSTA’s partners from NEA Member Benefits.

This webinar will:

  • Give you the latest updates, deadlines, and programs for student loan forgiveness
  • Cover the basics of the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and the PSLF Limited Waiver
  • Show you how to access the online NEA Student Debt Navigation Tool (provided to NEA members at no cost for one year) that will help you navigate this complicated process.
