HSTA retirement specialists never cold call or send mass emails to members

It has come to our attention that some HSTA members are receiving communications from financial advisors to their work email. To be clear, these emails are not from HSTA or their partners.

While we do offer financial education and retirement workshops as a benefit to HSTA members in partnership with NEA Member Benefits (MB), our NEA MB-vetted retirement specialists do not cold call members at their worksites or send mass emails to your work email address. They will always have an official NEA identification badge and NEA Retirement Program business cards.

As a reminder, never send personal documents or information to a company without first verifying who they are affiliated with. Also, do not pay anything in advance or give your credit card information. Working with our NEA Retirement Specialists is a benefit to HSTA members, therefore you will not pay anything out of pocket for services. If you have a question about a financial advisor’s affiliation with HSTA, please call HSTA’s office at 808-833-2711 to verify.

We are working with the Hawaii Department of Education on this issue, so if you encounter an aggressive behavior or situation, immediately contact us and let us know:

  • How the vendor is trying to reach you: Email, calling, walking on campus, etc.
  • Vendors or names of agents if available

If you are receiving the solicitation via email, please forward the email to ayamane@hsta.org for further investigation.
