The Hawaii Labor Relations Board (HLRB) this week denied the state’s motion to dismiss the HSTA's prohibited practice complaint about the state refusing to bargain with HSTA over rapidly changing coronavirus threats to its members.

This formal written request follows the class grievance that HSTA filed Aug. 17 on behalf of Bargaining Unit 05 employees over violations to the HSTA collective bargaining agreement (contract) and memorandum of understanding (MOU) reached with the state of Hawaii in June.

BOE chair expects more flexibility to request telework

“My understanding is, as we move into the next phase of this, after the first four weeks, there will be much more flexibility to request telework from home, but along with that will be some discussion about whether they have that capability to provide the technological support that they need from their homes,” Board of Education Chair Catherine Payne said Thursday night on Insights on PBS Hawaii, during a panel discussion titled “Back to School During COVID-19.”
