Is your school signed up to participate in Kids Voting Hawaii? Kids Voting Hawaii promotes civic education by providing students the opportunity to vote in the general election.
Students will make their voices heard by choosing their preferred candidate for president of the United States, representative to the U.S. House of Representatives for Congressional District 1 or 2, as well as their own state senators and representatives. Additionally, students will get to weigh in on other key issues such as voting rights, student voice, and sustainability in ballot questions based on their grade level.
So far, 42 public and charter schools have signed up to participate. If your school is not yet involved and you would like to help facilitate Kids Voting Hawaii at your school, please email State Rep. Amy Perruso (D, Wahiawa, Whitmore Village), a longtime HSTA member and former secretary-treasurer, at support@civiceducationcouncil.org.
The final deadline to sign up is Sunday, Oct. 25. See below for the list of schools that have already signed up.
Kids Voting Hawaii (KVHI) is a nonpartisan grassroots organization that promotes citizen participation by providing K-12 students in public, private, charter, and home schools the opportunity to experience democracy firsthand, by voting online in the general elections. Since 1996, Kids Voting Hawaii has been providing an age-appropriate curriculum and classroom activities, which align with the Hawaii State Social Studies Standards and address civic responsibility and civic character measurements.
