NEA MB Student Debt Navigator

As an educator, you may be able to have all or part of your federal student loans forgiven. HSTA members can take advantage of NEA’s online Student Loan Forgiveness Navigator powered by Savi. Get a complete list of repayment options and federal loan forgiveness programs based on your personal information for free and avoid common pitfalls, like unnecessary debt consolidation or ineligible loan payments.

Higher Education

Hawaiʻi Pacific University

Hawaiʻi Pacific University has flexible online and evening courses and is now offering HSTA members a 40-percent tuition discount for newly enrolled undergraduate students and a 30-percent discount for graduate or certificate programs. Members also have their application fees waived. Students who earn their master’s degree can use their credit hours toward reclassification.

Hawaii Homeownership Center

Interested in purchasing a home, but don’t know if you have the resources? Purchasing a home doesn’t have to just be a dream. Find out how to make your dream a reality, including how down payment assistance programs can help you become a homeowner even sooner. How do they work? What are the qualifications? What is required? How do I apply? HSTA is partnering with the Hawaiʻi HomeOwnership Center (HHOC) to provide informational online workshops for members to instill hope that homeownership can still be achieved in Hawaiʻi.

HSTA Welcome Home Mortgage Program

HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union presents the HSTA Welcome Home Mortgage Program to provide HSTA members stronger financial security through affordable and simple mortgage financing for their new purchase or refinance. HSTA members are eligible for benefits including:

  • As low as 3-percent down payment with mortgage insurance,
  • Flexible qualifying ratios and income limits,
  • Closing cost credit of 1 percent of the loan amount, and
  • One-time free interest rate float down.

Borrowers may not have an ownership interest in any other residential property within or outside the state of Hawaiʻi within the last three years.

Professional Support

$1 million NEA Educators Employment Limited Liability Insurance

The NEA Educators Employment Liability (EEL) program offers free professional liability insurance for members only at a savings of $1,500–$2,500 annually. It is designed to protect association members from personal financial liability for most incidents arising out of their educational employment activities or duties. The EEL Program provides insurance coverage for a variety of situations which results in injury to someone other than members, e.g., student injuries, charges of educational malpractice, or corporal punishment.

National Board Certification candidate support

HSTA offers year-long candidate support for members working on their national board certification. NBCTs receive $5,000 annual incentive and certification costs paid upon completion, and an additional $5,000 bonus for select schools. You can start your national board project in years one and two, but cannot submit until year three.

SHiNE (Supporting Hawaii’s New Educators)

SHiNE (Supporting Hawaii’s New Educators) is an HSTA program for members with up to three years of experience teaching in a Hawaii public school. If you are new to the profession or new to Hawaii’s public school system—or would like to help those who are—and want more information about SHiNE, please email shine@hsta.org.

NEA Attorney Referral Program

The NEA Attorney Referral Program provides HSTA members and their family with affordable access to legal help for personal matters. HSTA members can take advantage of two free 30-minute consultations during the calendar year and a savings of 30-percent off the normal fee in certain areas. Before attorneys can help our members, they are approved by both NEA and HSTA and must agree to provide services at convenient times outside education employees’ normal work days, discuss fees before they provide services, and accept payment by installment payment plans.
