Earn a stipend while brainstorming solutions to support fellow educators
Updated: January 3, 2022
Learning the ins and outs of teaching in Hawaii’s public school system can be so confusing and overwhelming, many of our new educators ending up leaving within the first five years. Please join us as we work together to identify key issues that contribute to Hawaii’s teacher shortage crisis, and develop solutions to support and retain new educators, just like you. Start building your skills as a Hawaii State Teachers Association leader, learn how to amplify your voice, and discover how you can make a difference in your profession.
About the Early Leadership Institute
The Hawaii State Teachers Association is assembling a cohort of new educators to participate in the National Education Association (NEA) Early Leadership Institute (ELI). Participants will collaborate to identify an issue, develop an implementation plan, and share it with HSTA leaders. Every participant is eligible to receive a $200 stipend.
Through this process, you’ll be able to:
- Work with an experienced HSTA member coach to identify and research an issue or problem and develop solutions.
- Play an active role in building the support you need as a new educator in Hawaii.
- Learn how HSTA can support you in your work, and tap into leadership opportunities within the union.
- Engage and develop valuable networks among fellow ELI cohorts, colleagues, local leaders, and education stakeholders.
- Attend meetings and events that impact education and educators in Hawaii. Be in the room where it happens!
- Get a head start on becoming a changemaker in your field.
If you’re interested in exploring a larger role in your profession, growing your career while helping others, and effecting positive change in Hawaii’s public education system, this opportunity is for you. Watch this NEA video to learn more:
