Form 5s out this week reflect higher pay rates

The Hawaiʻi State Teachers Association and the employer have finalized the salary schedules for the 2023-2027 collective bargaining agreement. Salary schedule B (10-month teachers) and BB (12-month teachers) reflect the 2% across-the-board increase for school year 2023-2024, and educators who are on Steps 5 to 14A will receive a step movement, which is equivalent to an additional 3% raise. Educators moving from Step 14A to Step 14B will receive step movements equivalent to 6% raises in addition to their 2% across-the-board increases.

While 12-month teachers will see the above raises starting the first day of the new school year, reflected in their July 20 paychecks, 10-month teachers will see higher pay starting with their Aug. 20 paychecks. Learn more about how teachers get paid over the summer here.

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education began sending out personnel action forms (Form 5s) this week to reflect the pay increase and step movement. Some individuals also qualify for a $3,000 lump sum payment at the start of the year, such as those on Step 14B and those who did not receive a compression adjustment in school year 2022–2023.

Teachers with questions about their Form 5s should email cert.trans@k12.hi.us. Public charter school teachers should anticipate similar notices from their school administration.
