We also want your school group photos wearing your new shirts!

It’s not too late to receive a new red Hawaiʻi State Teachers Association shirt! Head faculty representatives (HFR) were sent instructions in February about how to submit an order for your school. The shirts are the same color, style, and sizes as last year, but feature a new design.

Shirt orders are being filled on a rolling basis and more than 5,000 shirts have been ordered and sent out so far. If you haven’t heard about ordering options, please talk to your HFR to order your new HSTA shirt. The deadline to get shirts this school year has been extended to May 1.

HFRs are asked only to submit their order when they have every member’s shirt size, so we are not wasting resources on double shipments. Click here for a size chart.

Send us your photos

Now that schools are starting to get their shirts, we are looking for group #RedForEd photos from your schools. Teachers are asked to find a day, remind folks to wear their red HSTA shirts, then gather and take a photo with as many of your faculty as possible and share it with HSTA. Consult with your head faculty representative, who may want to coordinate the photo, and share it with us! You may spot your group photo on HSTA’s social media, and possibly even in our headquarters in Honolulu! Please submit original photos. No embellishments or collages, please!

About HSTA’s new T-shirt design

The fist in the new design represents solidarity with a tattoo reminiscent of traditional Polynesian tattoos that uses components of HSTA’s logo. The pencil and cursive writing represent knowledge and learning. As one HSTA member said upon seeing the design, “The pen is mightier than the sword.” The 12 characters on the back of the shirt represent the 12 chapters of HSTA.

Why red? Red for Ed(ucation) is a national movement to push back on the attacks on public education and we’re proud to show our solidarity by wearing our red shirts on Tuesdays, and/or whatever day your work site selects.
